John Williams does it again!
Last night at the 62nd Grammy Awards, legendary composer John Williams won his 25th Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Composition for his masterpiece, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Ege Symphonic Suite, beating out the likes of Fred Hersch, Brian Lynch, Vince Mendoza, and Christian McBride for the honor. The award-winning suite was originally released in 2019 and was composed at the London Symphony Orchestra at Abbey Road. Believe it or not, this was the first time Willaims had created a score for Star Wars that wasn’t directly connected to the original music he once created for the film franchise.

Shortly after winning the award, William Ross, a well-known composer-arranger and longtime collaborator with Williams revealed why the iconic composer decided to write the suite for the theme park in the first place.
“We wanted to enhance the immersive-theater quality of the land with a new composition, and that seemed to intrigue him. He signed on for it… and it’s been a fantastic adventure. One of the things we’re trying to inspire in our guests is this sense of awe and wonder. There’s an optimism, a sense of adventure; you go on a journey in this five-minute piece.”
For those less familiar with his work, Williams created some of the most memorable scores in cinematic history, including Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Jaws, and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.
