Zoe Kravitz is one of the brightest young stars in Hollywood and is currently starring in Hulu’s High Fidelity, HBO’s Pretty Little Lies, and is set to play Selina Kyle/Catwoman in Matt Reeves’s hotly debated Batman movie, which arrives in theatres on 2021.
During a recent interview on iHeartRadio’s Questlove Supreme podcast, Kravitz revealed she has only just started shooting The Batman, and described training regiment for the role quite difficult at times.
“It’s pretty intense. We just started shooting two weeks ago, but before that I was in London for two months, just getting in shape, training, learning fights.”
The actress went on to explain how the responsibility of playing such a beloved character can be a little nerve-racking, but at the end of the day, she couldn’t be more excited embody the character.
“It was a little scary, but also whenever I get nervous about something, I feel it pushes me to a better place anyway, so I welcome the nerves. If you start focusing too much on what people are going to think you’re doing yourself a disservice, it’s almost like you’re putting your energy in the wrong place. Of course, I want to honor the fans and hope they like what I do with the role, but in order to do what I think I need to do with Catwoman I have to go internal and forget about the rest of the world.”
Kravitz might not have been everyone’s first choice to play Gotham City’s expert thief, but having watched her career evolve over the years, we have no doubt both her and Robert Pattinson are really going to surprise people.
Reeves’ Batman film also stars Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/Riddler, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell Oswald Cobblepot as Oz Cobblepot/Penguin, and John Turturro as Carmine Falcone. A few weeks ago, we also learned Peter Sarsgaard would play Gotham City District Attorney Gil Colson, and newcomer Jayme Lawson has been cast as Gotham mayoral candidate, Bella Reál.
