Samurai Rick Fights Off A Swarm Of Ninjas In ‘Rick And Morty’ Anime-Inspired Short

Waiting for the second half of Rick and Morty’s fourth season to return is becoming little maddening, so after when we learned that Toonami had aired an anime-inspired short based on the animated series, we could barely contain our excitement. Rick and Morty is one of the best sci-fi shows on television and follows the misadventures of super-genius-but-kind-of-evil scientist Rick Sanchez and his high-school-loser grandson Morty Smith.

Written and directed by Kaichi Sato, Samurai & Shogun aired on Toonami over the weekend and after watching it a few serval times, we can’t seem to get enough. The brilliant and bloody adventure features a Japanese voice cast with English subtitles.

As much as we enjoyed seeing Rick fight off a swarm of ninjas, we couldn’t help but remained that the fifth episode of Rick and Morty’s fourth season aired last December and as of today, we still have no idea when Justin Roiland’s animated series will return. Adult Swim picked up the series for an additional seventy episodes (spanning over an unspecified number of seasons), so even though the delays have been super annoying, Rick and Morty’s future is looking bright.

Last week, Hulu has released the first teaser trailer for Roiland and Mike McMahan’s absurd new sci-fi comedy series, Solar Opposites. The animated sitcom will feature the voices Roiland, Sean Giambrone, Mary Mack, and Thomas Middleditch, and cameos from stars like Alan Tudyk, Alfred Molina, and Andrew Matarazzo. The first season arrives on May 8, 2020, only on Hulu.
